MARIE-FRANÇOISE DAIGLE (1716-1755)
Marie-Françoise Daigle was of Austrian heritage. Her grandfather was Jean Daigre or Degma, from Vienna but the name became Daigle after their arrival in Nouvelle France, sometime before 1688.
The original habitants were dedicated to their religion. The French were all Roman Catholic and the pressure upon anyone living in Nouvelle France would have been substantial. This was perhaps the reason the Jean Daigre from Vienna, Austria abjured from his Lutheran religion to become a Roman Catholic.
Françoise was born to parents Andre Daigle (Lallemand) and Therese (Proulx) the 11th of November 1716,(1) in Saint-Antoine-de-Tilly.
Françoise and Jacques married April 24, 1747,(2) in the village of Saint-Antoine and had five children over the next seven years.
Life cut short, due to complications of childbirth, Françoise died the 28th of May 1755,(3) at age thirty-nine when their only surviving child, Charles was just a small boy.
